Slashed admission prices bring Napoli fans flooding back

First Published: Mar 31, 2003

Fallen Italian giants Napoli are expecting a 70,000 capacity crowd for their second division match at home to Vicenza after the club's directors decided to lower admission prices.

Attendances have tumbled following a disastrous run of results which has seen Napoli slide into the bottom three ahead of Monday night's game.

Napoli coach Franco Colomba urged his players not to disappoint the supporters who have had little to cheer about in recent years.

"The board have made an important gesture and the fans have responded, so now it is up to the players," he said.

"They need to perform with heart and determination."

Napoli used to play in front of a full house on a regular basis when Diego Maradona played for the southern club.

Led by the Argentine legend, Napoli lifted their first ever Italian titles in 1987 and 1990.
