Gunners primed for Fulham says Wenger

First Published: Nov 29, 2003

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said his troops will have come off their Champions League cloud nine and be focused for the visit of hardy travellers Fulham.

Fulham's great start to the season, including a precious 3-1 away win at Old Trafford, has hoisted them into fifth place and the prospect of Sunday's match has left Wenger calling for a focused approach in what he sees as a "vital" match.

Wenger is determined his team will not make the same mistakes Manchester United did in allowing the men from west London to claim a surprise scalp.

And the Frenchman has warned Cottagers manager Chris Coleman that Arsenal - who hammered Inter Milan 5-1 at the San Siro in midweek - plan to remain undefeated in the league at home as they continue their quest to win back the title.

"If you want to be champions, you have to be very consistent at home," Wenger said.

"No team are the champions without being consistent at home.

"We have good momentum and must not lose it by being distracted by Tuesday night. We are focused on how we will play, not how Fulham will cope with us.

"We were on a high on Tuesday and know Fulham will be a hard game, so we must show we can adapt, from a high to a normal game.

"It is a London derby against a team who can get results away from home.

"Fulham are good coming out from the back so we need all our weapons for the game. It is a vital one for us."
