Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper Oliver Kahn has revealed that he may prolong his career beyond the 2006 World Cup, insisting he is as fit as ever.
The 34-year-old keeper stated his intention to quit after the 2006 World Cup in Germany, but believes his form for club and country this season indicates he could play at the top for a few more years.
"I spoke to Sepp Maier (Bayern's goalkeeping coach) and explained that if it carries on going like this I will not finish in 2006," Kahn told Thursday's German daily Bild.
"I wanted to end my career then but still think I can improve and I feel so physically fit."
Maier, a former German international goalkeeper, believes Kahn can play for another six years if he wants to.
"Oli can play at the top level even at the age of 40," opined Maier.
Bayern captain Kahn is tipped to succeed Uli Hoeness as general manager of the club when he decides to hang up his gloves.
