Portsmouth's Croatian striker Ivica Mornar is set to be loaned out to French first division side Rennes this season.

The powerful 30-year-old forward is due at the Brittany club Friday to undergo a medical before completing the deal which comes with an option to buy.

Mornar will fill the void left by Frederic Piquionne's departure on loan to Saint Etienne. His job will be to partner Swiss striker Alexander Frei, whose excellent form in the league last season did not carry over to Euro 2004 where not only did he fail to score but he also received a three match ban for spitting.

Mornar is Rennes' fourth recruit this summer, joining Swedish international goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson, Brazilian central defender Adailton, and Auxerre's Cameroon international Jean-Joel Perrier-Doumbe.
