Bournemouth substitute James Hayter scored the fastest hat-trick in English Football League history despite feeling "tired", his manager said.
Hayter, 24, entered the record books on Tuesday when, after coming off the bench in the 84th minute, he scored three goals in two minutes and 20 seconds to help Bournemouth to a 6-0 home Second Division win against Wrexham at Dean Court.
Bournemouth manager Sean O'Driscoll said: "James missed our match at Brighton because his wife was giving birth and he has now made up for lost time. I know he has been tired because becoming a dad is a traumatic experience."
He added: "I sent him on because Wrexham's defence was tired and I felt he could run them ragged for a minute or two - and that is what he did."
The previous record was set by Jimmy Scarth of Gillingham against Leyton Orient in the old Third Division South back in November 1952.
However, despite their defeat, Wrexham remained a point ahead of Bournemouth, ninth to the Cherries' tenth in the table.
