Arsenal's first game of the Amsterdam Tournament ended in a drab goalless draw with River Plate of Argentina.
Dennis Bergkamp came closest to breaking the deadlock, his last minute shot was parried by River Plate goalkeeper Eduardo Tuzzio.
In a low-key game, it was Dutchman Robin van Persie who had Arsenal's first effort on goal with a shot whistling over the crossbar in the sixth minute.
Nelson Cuevas had a shot saved for River Plate and Daniel Luduena later fired a shot wide.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger picked none of the players who took part in Euro 2004, but there was a debut for the new signing from Marseille, midfielder Mathieu Flamini.
Arsenal play hosts Ajax on Sunday in the last of their Amsterdam tournament games.
