Tottenham have signed Swedish international defender Erik Edman from Dutch club Heerenveen, the Premiership club announced on its website.
Edman, 25, joined Heerenveen in August 2001, after beginning his career at Swedish club Helsingborgs in 1998.
He played all three of Sweden's group games at Euro 2004.
New Spurs coach Jacques Santini is also running his eye over PSV Eindhoven striker Edson Rolando Silva Sousa who is having a trial at the club and featured in the squad for Saturday's friendly encounter against Nottingham Forest.
Lens striker Dagui Bakari is another hoping to impress Santini and earn a contract.
Spurs play Liverpool at home in their first Premiership game on August 14.
