French striker Thierry Henry, Brazilian Ronaldinho and Andriy Shevchenko of Ukraine were nominated for FIFA's world player of the year award for 2004.

Arsenal star Henry lost out for the coveted award in 2003 to countryman Zinedine Zidane, while Ronaldinho and Shevchenko are currently starring in European club football with Barcelona and AC Milan respectively.

The results will be announced at the FIFA World Player Gala 2004 on December 20 at the Zurich Opera House.

In the running for the women's title are last year's winner Birgit Prinz of Germany, American veteran Mia Hamm and Brazilian Marta.
