Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association after being sent off in Saturday's defeat at Manchester City for aiming a head butt in the direction of Danny Mills.

Villa are appealing the red card on the grounds that Hendrie did not make contact with Mills after squaring up to the City defender.

But the player's chances of escaping sanction have been reduced by the FA's decision to charge the player over his failure to leave the field promptly.

Middlesbrough defender Franck Queudrue meanwhile has been handed a three-match ban after having an appeal against his red card at Tottenham rejected.

Boro appealed against referee Phil Dowd's decision to dismiss the Frenchman for a two-footed tackle on Noe Pamarot.

But their plea failed and the full-back will now be forced to sit out the Premiership clash with Manchester City on Monday night as well as Southampton away and Aston Villa at home.
