Brazilian striker Ronaldo will be out of action for up to a fortnight, his club Real Madrid said, a day after the World Cup winner injured his right leg in his first training session following the winter break.

The club's leading scorer had already been ruled out of Tuesday's Spanish Cup clash against Athletic Bilbao but club doctors said Friday he had suffered a small tear after observing the extent of the injury at a Madrid clinic.

As well as the Bilbao encounter, Ronaldo, who scored in last week's home loss to Santander, is also to sit out the league game on January 8 as the former European champions seek to close an 11-point gap on leaders Barcelona.
