Sir Alex Ferguson, seen here on 11 December, is set to be investigated by the FA Premier League following his claims Bolton forced the postponement of their midweek fixture to give them more time to prepare for their match against Manchester United on Saturday.

Alex Ferguson's claims Bolton forced the postponement of their midweek fixture to give them more time to prepare for their match against Manchester United on Saturday is set to be investigated by the FA Premier League.

Premier League officials hinted on Friday night they would be looking into Ferguson's criticism of Bolton whose match against Middlesbrough on Wednesday was called off because of the failure of undersoil heating.

Ferguson said on Friday: "The Premier League should be more vigilant of this kind of thing," he said. "They should make sure clubs have undersoil heating that works and is maintained.

"We asked for our game against West Brom on Boxing Day to be played on Christmas Eve, but the league said no, saying it would give us an advantage over the rest of the Premiership.

"But then Bolton say their undersoil heating doesn't work and now they have an advantage -- five days of rest. I'm not convinced at all. Surely there must be some electricians in Bolton."

The Bolton manager Sam Allardyce has denied the suggestions, the Times newspaper added.
