Gomez scored off a half volley in the first half to post his sixth goal in four Open Cup games this year.
The Galaxy captured their second Dewar Trophy. Los Angeles also won the Open Cup in 2001 by beating the New England Revolution.
Both teams started slow on Wednesday, coming off a pair of hard fought games over the weekend.
Chris Albright set up Gomez for the lone goal. He sent a cross to Gomez who used an acrobatic scissor kick to bury the ball into the back of the net.
The Galaxy continued to create scoring chances in the second half. In the 74th minute, Gomez blew an opportunity to add a second goal.
