Former England international striker Andy Cole has moved from Manchester City to Portsmouth on a two-year contract.

The 34-year-old Cole passed a medical on Wednesday after Pompey agreed to pay City a fee which is officially undisclosed, but is believed will rise to one million pounds depending on his appearances.

Portsmouth also hope to sign Hajduk Split defender Niko Kranjcar ahead of Thursday's midnight transfer deadline in a 3.5 million pounds deal.

Cole will link up with two other former England stars, David James and Sol Campbell, at Fratton Park.

He told the club's official website, www.pompeyfc.co.uk: "It's an opportunity for me to play for another two years and I hope to do my best for Portsmouth Football Club, score a few goals and get the club into the top 10 which is what they are aiming to do this season.

"I know the club are trying to push forward, buying players and trying to start something new and I want to be a part of that."

The arrivals of Cole and Kranjcar - if confirmed - will take Pompey manager Harry Redknapp's tally of new signings this summer to eight.

Pompey took Portuguese midfielder Manuel Fernandes on a year-long loan deal from Benfica Wednesday but if the 20-year-old international - who is not expected to play for at least six weeks - recovers from a groin injury and impresses at Fratton Park he will become the club's record signing at around seven million pounds.

Kranjcar, 22, is being courted after losing out to Aston Villa in the race to sign Bulgarian star Stilian Petrov from Celtic.
