Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insists it is only a matter of time before his side win the Champions League.
Mourinho has won two English Premiership titles with Chelsea but has so far been unable to add Europe's elite club prize to the Stamford Bridge trophy cabinet.
Chelsea have been beaten by the eventual winners in both seasons since Mourinho arrived from Porto, losing to Liverpool in the semi-finals in 2005 and crashing out against Barcelona in the second round last term.
But the Portuguese coach knows exactly what it takes to lift the Champions League after inspiring unheralded Porto to glory in 2004.
And he is adamant Chelsea's development, and the financial backing of billionaire owner Roman Ambramovich, means they are certain to win the trophy sooner rather than later.
Mourinho told Chelsea TV: "One day we have to win the Champions League, whether it is this season, in two years time or in years to come when somebody else is in my place, I dont know when.
"What I know is that the natural consequence of Chelseas evolution is that one day Chelsea have to win the Champions League."
Chelsea have been handed a tough draw for the group stages of this season's tournament and face holders Barcelona, German club Werder Bremen and Bulgaria's Levski Sofia.
Mourinho is aware of the size of the task but added: "We know the Premiership is very difficult to win and we know to win the Premiership you must be a great team,
"But the most important competition in terms of clubs in the world must be the Champions League.
"There is no doubt that at the later stages, the knockout makes the situation harder to control. But for a club like Chelsea which is becoming bigger and bigger, I think the Champions League must be the consequence one day of that work.
"Premierships are the consequence of you being the best team. The Champions League is the natural consequence if you keep improving your team."
