Quashie charged by FA after Boro red card

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Nigel Quashie was charged with misconduct by the Football Association (FA) after being sent-off last weekend against Middlesbrough.

The Scotland international, who joined Albion from Southampton last month, already has to serve an automatic four-game ban for his second sending-off of the season after kicking Boro midfielder George Boateng in the back on Sunday after he had tumbled to the ground in the 55th minute.

But that ban could be extended after referee Mike Dean included in his match report that Quashie then allegedly used foul and abusive language towards one of his assistants as he left the pitch.

An FA statement said: "West Bromwich Albion's Nigel Quashie has been charged with using abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official.

"The charge relates to his conduct following his sending-off against Middlesbrough on February 26."

Quashie has until 1800GMT Wednesday to respond to the charge, with a disciplinary commission set to hear the case on March 7.

West Brom manager Bryan Robson confirmed Quashie, whose other red card came for Southampton against Hull before his move to The Hawthorns, would be fined after the 2-0 defeat which left the Midlands club just three points above the relegation zone.
