Frank Lampard has pulled out of the England squad for a friendly international against Uruguay after tweaking his hamstring in training.

Lampard will be replaced by Tottenham's Michael Carrick for the match at Anfield on Wednesday.

An England spokesman said Lampard's injury was not serious. "The medical staff immediately withdrew Frank from the session and he is going straight back to Chelsea because we don't want to take a risk," the spokesman said.

Michael Owen's absence from the squad through injury has allowed Charlton's Darren Bent the opportunity to make his debut up front alongside Wayne Rooney.

Revised England team

Paul Robinson, Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Wayne Bridge; David Beckham, Michael Carrick, Steven Gerrard, Joe Cole; Wayne Rooney, Darren Bent.
