Nigeria skipper Austin 'Jay Jay' Okocha emerged as a major doubt for the Super Eagles' opening African Nations Cup Group D match against Ghana on Monday after he failed to train with the rest of the squad.
Team doctor Abdulkadir Muazu confirmed that Jay Jay is "unwell".
"He is not okay but we will have to wait and see how it goes over the coming days," said the team doctor, who refused to give more details about the midfielder's fitness.
The Bolton Wanderers star sat with other top team officials by the sidelines as the Eagles had their first training in Egypt since they arrived from a training camp in Faro, Portugal, on Thursday.
Okocha, 32, has announced this will be his last involvement in international football as he plans to quit the national team at the end of the Nations Cup here in Egypt.
However, England-based stars Nwankwo Kanu and Joseph Yobo trained with the rest of the squad even though they are nursing injuries. Kanu only recently underwent a cheekbone operation while Yobo has been battling against a long-term shoulder complaint.
