Tottenham have signed Egypt midfielder Hossam Ghaly from Dutch club Feyenoord, the English club said.

The 24-year-old, who has 19 international caps, has agreed a four and a half year contract at White Hart Lane after two and a half seasons at Feyenoord.

Sporting director Damien Comolli told the club's website, www.spurs.co.uk: "I have watched Hossam since he was 17-years-old. He is a versatile, very physical and technically gifted midfielder who will offer us a number of playing options."

The Egyptian was left out of his country's Africa Cup of Nations squad.

His arrival could trigger the departure of Michael Brown, who has found himself surplus to requirements since joining from Sheffield Utd and is wanted by Fulham.
