The Scotland midfielder is struggling with a heel injury after recovering from ankle surgery earlier this year.

Winger Chris Burke has already been ruled out of the trip to Motherwell for their first match of the season on Sunday and will join Ian Murray (thigh) and Kris Boyd (suspension) on the sidelines.
