Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann said his players believed they could win the World Cup after they moved into the semi-finals after winning a penalty shootout against Argentina.
"The team has grown over the last six weeks and it is a team which is saying they can be world champions," Klinsmann said after Germany won 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 extra-time draw.
"The two best teams in the tournament met here and it is a pity that it had to be decided by a penalty shootout.
"But in spite of the penalties, we deserved it."
Klinsmann paid tribute to Germany goalkeeper Jens Lehmann, who saved two spot kicks in the shootout.
"In Jens Lehmann we have a strong keeper who has saved a lot of penalties in his career and today he stopped two more," he said.
"That was a thriller worthy of Hitchcock, but we know that each round is a thriller that we have to survive."
