Ivory Coast international defender Marc Zoro signed for Portuguese giants Benfica from relegated Serie A outfit Messina on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a torrid time in Serie A where twice he was subjected to racist abuse by Inter Milan fans leading him once to threaten to walk off the pitch and on the second occasion demand the referee abandon the match.

"I am going to play for Bnefica next season," said Zoro, who has been undergoing a medical since Sunday.

"The major target will be the Champions League," added Zoro, who was a member of the Ivory Coast team that lost to hosts Egypt in last year's African Nations Cup and reached the World Cup finals for the first time in their history.

Benfica finished third in the title race last term, behind champions FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon.
