Zalayeta pays the penalty for tricking the referee

Uruguayan international striker Marcelo Zalayeta, seen here in 2006, was slapped with a two-match suspension on Monday for tricking the referee into awarding his side Napoli a penalty in their 3-1 win over his former club Juventus on Saturday.
Uruguayan international striker Marcelo Zalayeta was slapped with a two-match suspension on Monday for tricking the referee into awarding his side Napoli a penalty in their 3-1 win over his former club Juventus on Saturday.
The match caused a scandal among Juventus directors, players and fans as referee Mauro Bergonzi was seen to award two highly dubious penalties to the home side.
Bergonzi awarded the first penalty with the match at 1-1 and both the players involved in the incidents were judged by the majority of pundits not to have been fouled.
The Italian Football Federation decided to take action and on Monday adjudged Zalayeta's foul not to have been caused by an opposing player.
It added that the erroneous award of the penalty stemmed from Zalayeta's behaviour.
