Deportivo Toluca's Uruguay international striker Vicente Sanchez is set to join German club Schalke 04, Mexican sports daily Record reported on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old has agreed a deal worth four-million dollars which includes a clause which allows him to return to the Mexican first division side if things don't work out in the German club.
The newspaper said that Sanchez will undergo a medical at Gelsenkirchen before signing the two-year contract.
"It's a dream come true for me to play in Europe. I'm happy to be joining a big club but sad to be leaving a team like Toluca where I've played for seven years," Sanchez was quoted as saying.
Sanchez has scored 85 goals in the Mexican championship since arriving in Toluca in 2001 from Uruguayan side Nacional.
Bundesliga runners-up Schalke 04 have already recruited Brazilian Ze Roberto from Botafogo during the winter break, and German midfielder Albert Streit from Eintracht Frankfurt.
