Fenerbahce have agreed a deal with Newcastle to sign Turkey international midfielder Emre Belozoglu, the Turkish club claimed on Saturday.

"Fenerbahce have reached an agreement with Newcastle United in order to sign the Turkish superstar Emre Belozoglu," read a statement on the club's website.

The Turkish press reported that the player will sign a three-year contract worth 10.5 million euros (16.3 million dollars) next week.

The former Galatasaray and Inter Milan star has failed to break through in England after joining United in July 2005.

The 27-year-old came to prominence after helping Turkey to third place at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea.

Emre joined Newcastle from Inter Milan for 3.8 million pounds in 2005 and is under contract until 2011.
