Denmark 1 South Africa 1, April 28th 1999

First Published: Apr 28, 1999

South Africa's hard and physical approach to this friendly saw them through to take a point.

The score line was a repeat of the World Cup game last summer in which two players were sent off. Denmark dominated the first session and took the lead from a fine Ebbe Sand header but South Africa improved after the interval.

Substitute John Mosheu saw more of the ball in the second half and he was able to dictate some purposeful attacks. His shot brought the sides level in the 73rd minute. The visitors had easily the best chance to win the game when sub McDonald Mukansi broke clear of the defence with only seconds remaining but his low shot caught the despairing dive of goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel and the ball spun wide of the target.
