Germany 6 Moldova 1, June 4th 1999First Published: Jun 05, 1999AC Milan striker Oliver Bierhoff cashed in on Germany's attacking policy in Leverkusen last night to hit three goals as the European champions overwhelmed Moldova. Bierhoff was one of four strikers on from the start as Germany went for goals and the best attacks were aimed at putting him through on goal. This ploy worked in only 40 seconds as the blonde striker ran on and crashed a shot against the crossbar. The Germans only had to wait another minute to take the lead when Bierhoff tried another shot on the run to send the ball into the net. Ulf Kirsten hit the second on 27 minutes with Marco Bode making the three points safe for the Group Five leaders in the 38th minute. Bierhoff hit a cross shot for his second on 56 minutes before Mehmet Scholl slapped in a loose ball in the 71st. Ten minutes later Bierhoff completed the scoring with a low drive some five minutes after Stratulat claimed a consolation for the visitors. All Content is Copyright © 1999 WorldSoccerNews.com.
