Real Madrid 3 Olympiakos 0

Real Madrid eased some of the recent concerns about their Spanish league form by clinching a place in the second phase of the Champions League with an easy win.

Greek champions Olympiakos offered little resistance to the Spaniards who were again watched in the Bernabeu by a low crowd of only 9,000.

A dipping shot from Raul bounced off the top of the crossbar in only the 6th minute as Real poured forward and they took the lead in the 20th minute when Fernando Morientes sent him clear for a low finish from the edge of the penalty area.

Morientes killed the game as a spectacle in the 63rd when he ran clear of the Greek defence to steer the ball into the corner of the net. Olympiakos had no answer as their defensive tactics sent them back into retreat.

Clarence Seedorf produced a great run from deep to put Roberto Carlos clear and the Brazilian accepted the half chance with a driven shot.
