Manchester United made it through to the second stage of the Champions League with a comfortable win in Zagreb.

The holders were put into the lead in the 35th minute when midfield star David Beckham executed one his regular finished from a free kick.

Beckham curled the ball into the far corner of the net from the left hand edge of the penalty area - the ideal place for aright footer to hit a shot at goal. The ball hit the far corner and United resumed their possession play which restricted the chance of the hame side.

Croatia Zagreb had little finishing power in attack and their best effort of the first half came when Sabic cut inside and hit a high shot which was finger tipped over the bar by Mark Bosnich.

A deflected Roy Keane shot secured the win after the break and United had a comfortable night despite a late consolation goal from Zagreb. Midfielder Robert Prosinecki hit the target with a drive from the edge of the penalty area in the last minute.
