Glasgow Rangers 1 Bayern Munich 1

First Published: Sep 22, 1999

Bayern Munich left it late to save themselves at a passionate Ibrox Park as Rangers dominated a game they should have won.

Michael Tarnat fluked an equaliser when his driven free kick was deflected into the net to stun the home crowd.

Sometime German international Jorge Albertz had fired the Scottish champions into a 22nd minute lead with a powerful shot on the run and capped a fine start from the Scots.

They built on this advantage with an excellent technical display to launch several strong attacks on the Munich goal but they found Stefan Wessels - a fourth choice goalkeeper for the Bundesliga giants - in defiant form. The luck that deserted Bayern in this competition so spectacularly last May returned to haunt Rangers and save the Germans rom defeat.
