SS Lazio 2 Kyiv Dynamo 1

SS Lazio needed a goal from Marcelo Salas to finally end Kyiv Dynamo's resistance in Rome.

The Ukraine champions had taken the lead in the 68th minute when Serhiy Rebrov scored a penalty. Sinisa Mihajlovic had been punished for a foul on Kyiv sub Serhiy Konovalov which saw the defender get at least some of the ball when he went to ground.

Mihajlovic made immediate amends by running down the left to launch a high cross onto the head of marauding defender Paolo Negro who headed down into the net.

Then Chilean star Salas - a second half substitute - took advantage of an Alen Boksic cross from the left which was batted by Kyiv goalkeeper Olexander Shovkovsky into the path of the South American who chested the ball down for an easy shot and finish.
