Hertha Berlin survived an untidy match at the San Siro to stay well in contention in Group H with an unbeaten record.

Milan were dubbed "small Milan" by president Berlusconi following their narrow 2-1 win against Galatasary last week and this was a similarly disappointing display from the Italian champions who needed to recover from a goal behind.

The Bundesliga side hit the front in the 69th minute with an excellent solo run from Ali Daei. It took him down the right flank and allowed him to cut inside to rip a firm drive into the net past Abbiati.

Milan needed record signing Andriy Shevchenko to set up the equaliser in the 73rd minute when he controlled a pass and crossed low for Oliver Bierhoff to edge the ball into the net from close range.
