Hertha Berlin survived an untidy match at the San Siro to stay well in contention in Group H with an unbeaten record.

Milan needed record signing Andriy Shevchenko to set up the equaliser in the 73rd minute when he controlled a pass and crossed low for Oliver Bierhoff to edge the ball into the net from close range.
