Bayern Munich 1 Valencia 1

First Published: Sep 29, 1999

Bayern Munich's problems continue after this home draw with a spirited Valencia side.

They cannot seem to shake the misery of recent cup final defeats and lost at home in the Bundesliga to VfB Stuttgart on Saturday to set their nerves on edge again before this match.

In truth the German side had this game completely won until they decided to throw it away and conceded a result which can only add to their malaise.

An 80th minute equaliser when Bayern seemed in control shook the side and its fans. Claudio Lopez headed a cross over Oliver Kahn and into the path of Gerard Lopez to head into the net. Lopez was denied the chance to win the game when he broke clear only for the full time whistle to be blown.

Elber had scored the Bayern goal after only 6 minutes and this early lead did not inspire the German champions the push forward any more.

The Brazilian scored from a rebound after a shot from Hasan Salihamidzic had spilled from the hands of reserve goalkeeper Andres Palop.
