Sparta Prague 4 Willem II Tilburg 0

First Published: Sep 29, 1999

Sparta Prague gave Willem II of Tilburg a thorough pasting to give themselves some hope of progressing from Group G.

The Czech side hit four goals to give the Dutch only a slim mathematical chance of qualifying.

Jiri Novotny turned and fired in from a corner in the 26th minute to hit the ball high into the roof of the net.

A Martin Prohaska penalty kick and Tomas Rosicky produced an excellent shot after he collected a low cross to the penalty area to make it 3-0.

Willem's misery was complete when Jiri Jarosik hit a low drive into the net in the 58th minute and Sparta desisted from inflicting any further wounds in a game in which Willem had their share of the play but no shots to speak of.
