Boavista 1 Feyenoord 1

First Published: Sep 30, 1999

Boavista levelled this tie with only four minutes to go to show Feyenoord of Rotterdam that the game had slipped from them when a win looked odds on for the Dutch champions.

Brazilian defender Mario Silva hit a hard left foot shot from outside the penalty area which went low into the net to give the Portuguese side their first point in Group C.

The home side managed to survive the dismissal of goalkeeper William Andem for an ugly tackle and held out for the draw.

The Dutch had taken the lead after a dull first half when midfielder Paul Bosvelt met a low cross into the penalty area to hit the ball low over the line.
