SS Lazio 1 Valencia 0

Valencia win 5-3 on aggregate.

Italian involvement in European competition ended for this season in Rome as SS Lazio paid the full price for their shambolic display in Valencia two weeks ago.

There was to be no drama and no legendary fight back by Sven Goran Eriksson's side who failed to produce the waves of attacks that were expected to resurrect their European adventure.

Instead the measured counter attacks and disciplined defending of the Spanish side saw them through to a semi final meeting with FC Barcelona.

A Pavel Nedved shot in the 8th minute was the closest Lazio came to a goal until the 27th minute when the home team established a territorial advantage. Almeyda came close with a well taken lob shot and Marcelo Salas fluffed a shot in the 32nd minute when he ran through on goal.

Seven minutes after the break Juan Sebastian Veron won the game with a blazing drive with his right foot into the top corner of the net but it was not enough even though substitute Simone Inzaghi brought a great save from Canizares in the 55th minute with a powerful header.

In the 67th minute Valencia almost scored an away goal but Gerard Lopez was ruled offside when he hit a close range finish.
