Rudi Voller may not have made many changes to the Germany squad from Euro 2000 in his first game as coach but that did not stop his team thrashing Spain 4-1 in Hannover.
Spain coach Jose Camacho picked an experimental side for this match and paid the price.
Bayern Munich star Alexander Zickler continued his great recent form with two goals and team mate Mehmet Scholl also scored twice.
Scholl got the scoring underway with a 24th minute free kick after Germany quickly established control of the game. Scholl also scored the second in the 51st minute when he robbed Ivan Campo in defence and was then put through on goal for a neat finish.
Zickler cut inside from the left to score with a 57th minute cross shot and whipped a powerful shot into goal from the other side in the 62nd minute.
Raul scored Spain's only goal with a close range shot in the 86th minute.
