Accra saw the worst of co-hosts Ghana as they survived this defeat against Ivory Coast to make the last eight of the African Nations Cup on goal difference.
Every team in Group A finished on four points but Cameroon and Ghana make progress due to a better goal difference.
The Ivory Coast side produced their best form of the competition and outplayed Ghana at times.
Their first goal was well worked. Bonaventure Kalou surged through a gap in the home defence to meet a low through pass from Diallo allowing the midfielder space and time to pick his spot for the finish.
A 3-0 win would have seen the Ivory Coast make the last eight and they hit the bar in the 80th minute with a swerving shot from Donald-Oliver Sie and it was Sie who hit a low shot in the 84th minute to encourage his team to attack and find the crucial third goal but Ghana survived even though they were poor in this game.
