The US are well on course for the second stage of the CONCACAF Gold Cup after a 1-0 win over Peru.
Midfielder Cobi Jones secured their place in the quarter finals by scoring the only goal of this Miami tie.
Jones headed a driven cross from the left by Eddie Lewis who cut inside to arrow the ball into Jones path which reached the net with Peru goalkeeper Oscar Ibanez left standing. This 59th effort eventually subdued a good effort from a very young Peru side. They tested US goalkeeper Brad Friedel with a good far post shot from Ysrael Zuniga but the Liverpool reserve moved well to beat away the shot.
The win puts Bruce Arena's side into the last eight as they win Group B of the opening stage. They meet Colombia who were poor in a 2-0 defeat against Honduras. Jones will hope to main6tain his excellent recent ofrm for Arena's side. He has scored three goals in the last three internationals and the last time a soccer player
