African Nations Group D - Morocco 0 Tunisia 0

The two North African giants produced a sterile draw in Lagos that leave the Moroccans in better shape to make the next phase.

They face co-hosts Nigeria on Wednesday needing only a point with Tunisia needing a win against Congo and hope that the other game is drawn.

Morocco will have captain Nourredine Naybet suspended for the game after his second yellow card of the first phase in this scrappy match.

The day also went badly for Youssef Chippo. A hip injury could see him miss the rest of the tournament and his club, Coventry City, lost 3-2 at home in the English FA Cup 5th round to First Division Charlton.

Tunisia should have won the game if an 11th minute decision had gone their way. Naybet brought down Tarek Thabet in the penalty area but Tunisia were only awarded a free kick which they skied over the bar.

Morocco's best chance in the second half brought a comical miss from Adil Ramzi. The midfielder produced a good save from Chokri El Ouaer with a powerful shot and Hadda fluffed the rebound straight into Ramzi's feet on the goal line. He managed to hook the ball up and over the bar from only about four feet away. Group D is definitely not living up to pre-tournament expectations.
