2002 World Cup qualifier - Ecuador 0 Colombia 0

First Published: Jul 26, 2000

Ecuador dominated this game in Quito but were unable to find a goal to beat Colombia.

The point gained by Colombia eases them a point clear of Brazil and the fifth place Brazilians face Argentina tonight in a match crucial for their World Cup survival.

Colombia goalkeeper Oscar Cordoba was the star on the night with several excellent saves as his team defended the draw. The home team had two good calls for penalties ignored and saw striker Ariel Graziani fluff a great first half chance when he let a ball run away from him. Cordoba saved well from Eduardo Hurtado in the 18th minute and Clever Chala hit a shot into the side netting when he was through on goal.

Ecuador's creative master Alex Aguinaga was the target for consistent fouls by the negative visiting team and some of the tackling reached extremely aggressive levels in the second half.
