2002 World Cup - Argentina 1 Bolivia 0

First Published: Jun 05, 2000

Argentina edged a 1-0 win in this 2002 World Cup qualifying match against 10 man Bolivia.

The Argentines now top the CONMEBOL section with nine points from three matches and are two points ahead of Brazil in second place.

A scrappy and disorganised game needed a late winner from substitute Gustavo Lopez after the home team had failed to pick their way through a Bolivian team that stayed in defence once Marcelo Caballo was sent off for a second booking.

Lopez produced the one moment of true quality in the match when he swiped in an 82nd minute volley from outside the penalty area to break Bolivian resistance.
