Real Madrid 2 Kyiv Dynamo 2

Real Madrid failed to use home advantage to carry them into the last eight of the Champions League and missed several chances to put away Kyiv Dynamo to draw 2-2.

The Ukrainian champions achieved an excellent result but could not get the two goal winning margin needed to claim their place in the next round.

Both sides will need wins next week in their last matches to contest the second place qualification position behind Bayern Munich.

Real Madrid are in Trondheim to play Rosenborg but Kyiv host Bayern Munich with the German side having nothing to play for.

Fernando Moriented was felled in the penalty area to earn a 13th minute penalty which Raul hit hard and low to the right of goal for 1-0 to Real.

Two more penalties were missed - one by either side - before Kyiv got back on terms.

Alexander Khatskevich followed a driven penalty area into the mouth of goal as Real allowed the ball to travel across the face of goal and he stooped to head the ballin.

An embarrassing own goal from Fernando Hierro gave Kyiv the lead.

Georgi Demetradze crossed from the right and Hierro fell to the ground at the near post and diverted the ball into the net.

Roberto Carlos saved the Spanish side and kept them in the competition when he fired in a free kick that Olexnader Shovkovsky saved but allowed to squirm away from his grasp and over the goal line.
