FC Barcelona could now sack coach Llorenc Serra Ferrer after failing to get through to the latter stages of the Champions League for the third time in the last four seasons.
The coach's future has already been discussed at boardroom level and the press are about to slam into his side after poor away form cost them a place in the big money league.
The damage was done last month when they lost 3-0 at Besiktas and Leeds' ability to draw at Milan dumped Barca into the UEFA Cup despite this 5-0 win.
Barcelona dominated the first half and took the lead in the 11th minute.
Rivaldo drove a corner onto the head of strike partner Luis Enrique to head down into the goal mouth allowing Philip Cocu to stab the ball into the net in a scrambled finish.
Six minutes later and Barca repeated the trick as Rivaldo's corner this time found Abelardo Fernandez' head and Luis Enrique was on hand to steer the ball in.
The Turkish side only threatened twice when a hard drive from Tayfur was saved on the half hour and a Markus Munch header came close two minutes before the break.
Barca marched on and four minutes into the second half Simao Sabrosa set up Luis Enrique for his second goal of the night with a hard drive into the far corner.
That killed the game as a contenst but news of the Milan game disturbed the home support and their minds were elsewhere when Rivaldo scored an 80th minute penalty after a hand ball and Gabri Garcia hit a fifth goal from close range but its second best again for Barca in Europe this season.
