2002 World Cup - Venezuela 1 Ecuador 2

First Published: Nov 16, 2000

Ecuador found this win easier than expected after poor defending by the home team gave away this game.

Striker Ivan Kaviedas put Ecuador into an early lead in the 4th minute when he was left unmarked at a free kick to put the visitors on their way to taking fourth place in the CONMEBOL section.

In the 21st minute Wellington Sanchez mishit a shot that was all but thrown into the net by Venzuela goalkeeper Gilberto Angelucci.

Venezuela responded in the second half with a low drive from Juan Arango but Ecuador held on comfortably.
