The midfielder found himself clean through in only the 5th minute but side footed his shot straight at the goalkeeper.

Veteran midfielder Mehmet prompted very well from midfield for the home side and got into advanced positions with Markus Munch providing excellent crosses which failed to find the strikers.

Leeds suffered further injury problems when striker Michael Bridges twisted his ankle on the turf in the 24th minute and was carried off the field. Mark Viduka hit the side netting with a left foot shot in the 35th minute and the Australian striker claimed a penalty in the 61st minute when he appeared to be fouled in the area but nothing was given.

At the start of the second half Nihab ran clean through but skied his shot over the cross bar in the 56th minute but Leeds restricted Besiktas to very few chances.

An 80th minute elbowing offence by Australian Jacob Burns was luckily missed by the referee which could have been a blow to the English side.
