New Bayer Leverkusen coach Rudi Voller won his first game as a club manager with a 1-0 victory over Spartak Moscow.

Voller - the German national team coach - took over Leverkusen on Saturday after Christoph Daum was fired for failing a drug test.

Although Spartak lost 1-0 they qualify for the next stage of the Champions League thanks to Lisbon's defeat in Madrid.

Midfielder Michael Ballack scored the winner in the 52nd minute with an indirect free kick from inside the penalty area that slapped against the underside of the crossbar and into the net.
