Three goals from Claudio Lopez saw SS Lazio clinch a place in the second stage of the Champions League.

Lazio had a scare though with Shakhtar taking the lead in the 42nd minute .

Ukrainian star Andriy Vorobei hit a great left foot shot high into the net in the 42nd minute when he made space for himself.

A four goal blast in twenty second half minutes got Lazio back on track with Lopez taking the lead.

He hit his first with a low drive in the 48th minute and Giuseppe Favalli ran onto a loose ball to drive in on 54 minutes. Juan Veron curled in a free kick in the 58th minute with a shot from outside the penalty area for the best goal of the night. Lopez got his second from a close range finish in the 68th minute and repeated the trick in injury time for his hat trick.
