A young US side won easily against an under strength Mexico in a Los Angeles friendly last night.
The US side featured seven of the young players who represented them at the Sydney Olympics last month and they could appear again as the US face Barbados on November 15th to decide their World Cup future.
The US need a win to ensure they qualify for the six team final group stage of 2002 qualifying.
Neither side scored in a dull first half but five minutes into the second session 18 year old substitute Landon Donovan was put through by Clint Mathis to round goalkeeper Adrian Martinez after a cut inside from the left.
Mathis created the second goal as well by setting up Donovan to cross for Josh Wolff to steady himself before clipping the ball under an advancing Martinez in the 80th minute.
