A famous Besiktas victory in Istanbul saw FC Barcelona defeated 3-0.

Barca were too adventurous if anything and Nevio Scala's team were able to pick apart the middle of the defence in front of them and scored in each half.

The home team almost got the lead early on when Pascal Nouma reached a deep corner to head at goal but Sergi was back on the goal line to head the ball out from the goal.

Ibrahim forced a double save from Richard Dutruel after a run down the left and a cut inside as Besiktas took advantage of the space allowed to them by the Barca formation.

Coach Llorenc Serra Ferrer paired Ivan De La Pena and Patrick Kluivert together as a front pair and made the rest of the team follow 3-3-3-2 pattern to help them.

It did not come off in the first half but Rivaldo worked his way through the home defence only to place a weak shot at Ike Shorunmu which the Nigerian goalkeeper saved comfortably.

Beskitas took the lead when Dursun was put clear to finish in the 38th minute.

Dursun started the second half well with a clever arcing chip that forced Dutruel to scramble back and save.

Ibrahim took over the game in midfield as Barcelona all but collpased under the pressure exerted by Scala's team.

Pascal Nouma sent a glancing header wide before Besiktas scored their second goal. Ibrahim sent through a pass that Nouma allowed to run past him wrong footing the defence and Dursun lobbed the ball into the net.

Nouma capped a hard working epitomising the endeavour of his team in the dying seconds when he slapped a shot in off the underside of the cross bar as the Barcelona defence was spread out and helpless.
