SS Lazio made hard work of an easy win in Rome against Sparta Prague.
Simone Inzaghi, Pavel Nedved and Marcelo Salas all wasted good first halk chances before Inzaghi put Lazio into the lead.
The Italian champions completely dominated the game and all but outclassed the Prague team in every area except finishing.
Inzaghi wasted the best chance in the 18th minute when he was put clear but directed a header from an unmarked position at Postulka.
The forward made amends in the 35th minute when Juan Sebastian Veron put him through for a low finish. Just seconds before half time though Obadin missed a good chance when he put his shot wide to remind Lazio that more work in front of goal was needed.
Juan Veron provided the inspiration for this.
In the 57th minute he provided the free kick for Diego Simeone struck into the net and the play maker again released Inzaghi for a run in on goal and neat finish in the 70th minute. Lazio were boosted by two good saves from Luca Marchegiani either side of half time to keep Sparta out of the game and Pavel Nedved and Salas missed open goals without harming Lazio's good night. Their finishing will need to be better against Arsenal in London next week.
